Oneil Cruz took to Instagram on Wednesday to announce his readiness for the upcoming 2024 season.
In the post, Cruz exclaimed, “Healthy and ready to Raise that Jolly Roger…2024 LOADING. Let’s go Bucs.”
Ji Hwan Bae, an infielder/outfielder for the Pirates, showed his support by liking the post, and former Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco added a comment. In Spanish, Polanco wrote, “con dios cama larga".
Anticipation is high for the towering shortstop as he enters the 2024 season. His combination of power, speed, and arm strength is expected to be a valuable addition to a lineup that felt the absence of his bat in 2023.
As the countdown to the new season begins, pitchers and catchers are set to report to Bradenton in one week, with the full squad scheduled to report on Monday, February 19.
The Pirates' first preseason game will be on the road against the Twins on February 24.
